Tamil Nadu Congress Committee today said "democratic and secular forces," of the state should join hands against BJP.
Accusing the BJP of abandoning the growth agenda that it put forward during Lok Sabha elections, TNCC President EVKS Elangovan said the saffron party was now trying to polarise people on religious lines.
"It is the need of the hour for democratic secular forces of Tamil Nadu to join hands to scuttle the conspiracy of RSS-BJP combine to mobilise people on religious lines," Elangovan said in a statement here.
Alleging "ulterior" political motives in BJP's proposal to bring a law to stop forcible conversions, he said the present legal provisions alone were sufficient to prevent this.
"The BJP has embarked on such activities to intimidate the minorities. The Congress party will struggle hard to protect the rights of minorities", he said.
