: Reiterating it's resolve to not allow BJP gain a foothold in Tamil Nadu, the CPI today said all secular parties join together and fight against the Centre's policy, particularly in the educational field.
State CPI secretary D Pandian told reporters here that the BJP government was trying to 'impose' Sanskrit and Astrology under the pretext of innovation in the educational field, which would take India 1,000 years back.
Considering this, all secular and like minded parties should align and fight this policy, he said.
Coming down heavily on the proposal to cut down or gradually abolish subsidies, he said it would result in unnecessary tension and unrest among the poor.
As against Rs six lakh crore subsidy provided to 420 industrialists, the Government and states had only given subsidy of Rs three lakh crore for the common man, he claimed.
The cancellation of providing free dhotis and saris as Pongal gift to the poor by Tamil Nadu government could be a forerunner of abolition of subsidy, he said.
To a question on the move to send back Sri Lankan refugees back to the island nation, he said it should be done only after ensuring a conducive living atmosphere there since the new government has taken charge only recently.
