Securing porous borders with friendly countries such as Nepal and Bhutan is more complex than guarding the frontier with Pakistan, outgoing Director General of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) Archana Ramasundaram said today.
Addressing a press conference, Ramasundaram, the first woman to head a central armed police force, said for a friendly nation, the force has to be extra careful so that the trans-border criminals do not disturb the porous border.
She said it is more complex to guard a friendly border than the border with countries such as Pakistan.
The SSB guards 1,751 km Indo-Nepal and 699 km Indo-Bhutan borders.
Ramasundaram, who will demit office tomorrow, said there are many challenges as the two borders are porus and the force's actions such as seizure of contrabands are based on intelligence inputs.
She chief said a new intelligence set up of 650 posts including three posts of DIGs has been sanctioned and operationalised in the SSB.
"The SSB has been a pioneer and first among all the CAPFs to introduce 'MYSSB' mobile app for the welfare and administrative convenience of serving personnel," she said.
