Airport personnel will strictly check all baggage through X-ray scanning to look for hidden weapons or dangerous materials, said Darun Saengchai, deputy permanent secretary of transport and acting director-general of Department of Airports.
Contingency plan has already been mapped to cope with emergency situations, Darun said but did not elaborate.
Hand-held bags carried on board by passengers as well as the passengers themselves will be subjected to tighter checks, he said.
He said security at 28 airports across Thailand was tightened up to Level 3 - the highest level.
Meanwhile, the Department of Airports has called on passengers and members of the public to immediately inform officials in case they spot something suspicious or baggage left unattended, Thai PBS news said.
