A landmine weighing nearly 15 kg, allegedly planted to target security forces, was recovered in Giridih district, the police said on Wednesday.
After getting information that the rebels have devised a strategy to foil the general elections in the Mohanpur forest area, the CRPF and the district police personnel surrounded the area on Tuesday evening, the Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) of Giridih, Niraj Kumar Singh, said.
The security forces recovered the landmine during a search operation and diffused it, he said.
The Maoists took refuge in the deep forest and escaped, he added.
The security forces also recovered 407 bullets for SLRs and 588 bullets for other firearms, explosives and Naxal literature, the SDPO said.
