A security guard, in his 40s, was shot at allegedly by two unidentified motorcycle-borne men as he foiled their attempt to rob a cash van of a bank in outer Delhi, police said.
At 2 pm, the cash van had come to fill cash into an ATM kiosk in Kanjhawla.
While it was parked outside the ATM and cash was being taken out to be filled into the kiosk, two men on a motorcycle came there and asked the occupants of the cash van to part with a bag containing almost Rs 15 lakh in cash, police said.
The security guard of the van, identified as Dalip Tiwari, resisted their attempt and was assisted by the other occupants of the van.
They raised an alarm. Scared, the two accused fired at Tiwari and fled from the spot leaving the cash behind.
Tiwari sustained bullet injury in his right thigh and is currently in hospital. He is out of danger, the police said.
Police have formed teams to identify and arrest the accused. They are scanning CCTV footages to gain clues to the accused.
It is suspected that the accused were following the cash van from a distance and were waiting for an opportune time, police said.
