Railways has installed door frame metal detectors at 345 stations while 4,780 hand held metal detectors have been made available for checking of passengers based on threat perception, Minister of State for Railways Rajen Gohain informed Lok Sabha today.
For regular monitoring and review of security arrangements for the Railways, State Level Security Committee for Railways (SLSCR) have been constituted for all State/Union Territories (UTs) under the Chairmanship of respective Director General of Police/ Commissioner of States/ Union Territories, he said in a written reply.
"Presently, door frame metal detectors have been installed at 345 railway stations across Indian Railways. In addition, 4,780 hand held metal detectors are also available at different Railway stations for checking of passengers.
"Since strengthening and upgradation of security infrastructure is an ongoing process, based on the threat perception and vulnerability, more stations may be identified for installation of such equipment in due course," he said.
