Security tightened at Alipore court premises

Security measures were strengthened at the Alipore sessions court, where West Bengal Transport Minister Madan Mitra was produced during the day, in view of the fracas created by Trinamool Congress supporters on December 13, the day he was brought after his arrest in the Saradha scam.
Although thousands of Mitra's supporters gathered in front of the court gates they were not allowed to enter the approach roads to the venue.
The supporters were barricaded by guardrails while some TMC supporters used the public address system to urge others not to block the CBI convoy when Mitra was being brought to the court.

The strength of the party supporters present inside the complex today was less in comparison with that of December 13.
The courtroom was, however, packed and lawyers and media personnel were seen in large numbers besides members of Mitra's family.
After the production of Mitra, the police effectively kept the crowd at bay and the convoy made a smooth exit towards the Salt Lake electronic complex police station where Mitra is lodged.
