The leopard had ventured out of the Jayanti forest and entered North Dhupjhora village looking for food when it was spotted by residents yesterday.
The leopard attacked the villagers injuring three, Wildlife II DFO Sunipa Ghatak said.
Forest department personnel after being informed arrived and tranquilised the animal.
But villagers attacked the leopard with sticks, which was unable to run away because it was sedated, and was beaten to death, Ghatak said.
