Traders attributed the fall in copper and other metal prices to a weak trend at the London Metal Exchange (LME) before data on industrial production from China, the world's biggest user of industrial metals.
Besides, subdued demand from domestic industries also weighed on prices, they said.
Meanwhile, copper for delivery in October lost 0.3 per cent to 49,650 yuan (USD 8,064) per tonne in Shanghai, while zinc for delivery in three months retreated by 0.5 per cent to USD 2,319 per tonne at the LME.
