Linseed oil, in the non-edible section, also showed strength on increased offtake by paint makers and other consuming industries.
Traders said rising demand from retailers for the ensuing festive season mainly led to the rise in select edible oil prices.
Meanwhile, India's vegetable oil imports touched 13.33 lakh tonnes in August this year, highest in last two decades, on record shipment of soyabean oil, industry body SEA said.
In the national capital, Cottonseed mill delivery (Haryana) oil traded higher by Rs 100 to Rs 6,200 per quintal.
