Second seeded Vishnu Vardhan, fourth seeded Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan and fifth seed Ranjeet Virali Murugesan also booked their places in the semifinals.

In the quarterfinal match, Ashwin was in the driver's seat leading 6-1 in the first set tie-break but Ti-Chen fought back from there to level points and went on to take the set at 9-7.

In the second, Ashwin seemed to be low on moral and made quite a few unforced errors as Ti-Chen with two breaks (third and ninth game) sealed the set and match.

In another quarterfinal tie, Vishnu Vardhan was in his elements and overpowered his rival N Sriram Balaji with his booming first serve and strong forehand returns.

Vishnu blasted as many as 10 aces in the tie while Balaji was struggling to hold his serve making four double faults.

In the first set, Balaji began with a double fault and dropped the first game slamming a double handed backhand out and Vishnu, who fired three aces, took the second game for a 2-0 lead. He never looked back as he raced to a 6-0 win breaking Balaji again in the third and fifth games.
