Shiv Sainiks staged protests in the city and surrounding localities and pelted stones at buses following a controversial Facebook post which contained alleged derogatory references to warrior king Shivaji and Sena leader late Bal Thackeray.

About eight buses were damaged in the incidents that took place last night and this morning as the Sena activists took to the streets and filed complaints with police demanding immediate removal of the post, police said.

Shops in various areas of the city downed their shutters this morning in response to appeal by the Sainiks to join the protest.
