Senior Shiv Sena leader and Maharashtra Transport minister Diwakar Raote will take part in a 'morcha' (protest rally) organised by Marathi speaking people at Belgaum tomorrow.
"(Shiv Sena chief) Uddhav ji (Thackeray) today in (Sena mouthpiece) Saamana has urged us to show Karnataka government we are no less than 'Baahubalis'. As per his directions, we will be taking part in a morcha at Belgaum tomorrow," Raote told reporters here.
He said the 'morcha' would start at 10:30 am tomorrow.
"It is our responsibility to show solidarity with people of Belgaum, who are protesting against the atrocities of Karnataka government," he said.
"The issue of Belgaum-Karwar has time and again resonated in the state Legislative Assembly and has been spoken about in the Governor's speech as well. It is our responsibility, as part of the Maharashtra government, to show solidarity with the sentiments of Marathi speaking people there," said Raote.
Thackeray, in Sena mouthpiece 'Saamana' had today asked Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to reach out to Marathi-speaking people in Karnataka in the backdrop of the controversial comments made by a minister in the neighbouring state against the chanting of "Jai Maharashtra" slogan there.
Last week, Karnataka's Urban Development minister R Roshan Baig had reportedly said in Belgaum that elected representatives found raising the slogan stand to lose their elected posts in the southern state.
Baig had also allegedly said that Karnataka government was intending to bring in a new legislation to check "anti- Karnataka activities" by elected representatives.
