"Twenty Shiv Sena workers, who were protesting and shouting slogans outside Hotel Hyatt at Vastrapur area of the city, where J&K Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed was scheduled to attend a programme, were detained," Vastrapur Police Inspector S M Sheikh said.
They were shouting slogans against Pakistan, seeking immediate arrest of (Hurriyat leader) Syed Ali Shah Geelani, the police officer said adding, "The Sena workers had brought black flags and placards for the protest. However, we detained them before Sayeed's arrival at the hotel."
However, president of Shiv Sena Central Gujarat, Ashok Sharma, claimed that action was taken against the party workers for holding a protest against Jammu & Kashmir Chief Minister.
"The agitation was against Mufti Mohammad Sayeed's visit to Gujarat as he has failed to arrest separatist leaders like Syed Ali Shah Geelani," Sharma said.
He demanded that the J&K government as well as the Centre should arrest those pro-Pakistani elements including Geelani for waving a Pakistani flag.
