Senior Congress leader from Kerala, V M Sudheeran, today met party Chief Sonia Gandhi and Vice President Rahul Gandhi seeking their intervention to "save" the party and UDF government hit by the solar panel scam.
Sudheeran is learnt to have apprised both the leaders of the political situation in the state after the exposure of the scam and suggested "correction" to improve the functioning of both party and the UDF government.
His separate meetings with the two top leaders came days after Rahul Gandhi had reviewed the crisis in UDF government at a time when the controversy over the solar panel scam refuses to die down.
Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and PCC Chief Ramesh Chennithala were summoned by Gandhi to review the political situation in the state.
Known for his independent view, Sudheeran is learnt to have told Sonia Gandhi that the party was not in a position to face an election "at this point of time".
Sudheeran's meeting with the high command came at a time when opposition LDF is running an agressive campaign for removal of Chandy in the wake of the scam.

The Congress central leadership is said to be worried over the developments in the party and the government, including feud between groups headed by Chandy and Chennithala, in the state where the Congress-led UDF had won 16 seats out of 20 seats in 2009 Lok Sabha polls.
Sources said the party high command has decided to "closely monitor" the situation in the state.
Sudheeran had also discussed the political situation with AICC General Secretary in-charge (Kerala) Mukul Wasnik.
