A senior IPS officer today moved the Madras High Court seeking anticipatory bail in connection with a case of criminal intimidation registered against him by police.
P Sivanandi, holding the post of Chief Vigilance Officer of state transport corporation at Tirunelveli, moved the anticipatory bail application apprehending arrest in a case filed at the Vepery police station against him.
Justice R Subbaiah directed the police not to arrest him till Friday and posted the matter to further hearing for tomorrow.
In his petition, Sivanandi submitted that he had an unblemished service record and the case against him was registered on the basis of a complaint by one Pandiyarajan.
Pandiyarajan in his complaint submitted that Sivanandi and others threatened him with dire consequences if he failed to withdraw a complaint he made against one Ganapathy.
In his petition, Sivanandi submitted that he never threatened Pandiayarajan. The petitioner was trying to give a criminal colour to a civil dispute and the police may implicate him with "ulterior motive," he argued.
He submitted that he came to understand that the dispute arose between Pandiyarajan and Ganapathy were settled and a letter was also sent to the Commissioner of Police in this regard seeking to withdraw the complaint made by Pandiyarajan against Ganapathy.
