Senior Tel officials to study factors behind suicide by cops

A core group of senior police officers will take up a study on various causative factors due to which police personnel in Telangana are committing suicide.
A decision in this regard was taken during an interactive meeting with the senior officers of the Police Department on the issue of stress management in police and mitigating depression, which was held under the chairmanship of the state DGP Anurag Sharma.
"Various causative factors were discussed at the meeting and the DGP felt that the core group of officers should volunteer to work closely on the subject and come out with actionable solutions," an official release said.

IG (Training) Charu Sinha will coordinate the efforts of the core group which will also study various causative factors both short and long term that are "triggering" committing of suicides by police personnel, it said.
At the meeting, it was felt that families of the police personnel have to be factored in along with many other causes that impact the work and life balance among the police personnel.
The interactive meeting also had the presence of practitioners from mental health.
Home Department Principal Secretary Rajiv Trivedi were among those who participated, the release added.
