The 30-share index, which had lost 244.75 points in the previous session, recovered by 76.54 points, or 0.27 per cent, at 28,876.23 with oil & gas, consumer durables, PSU, auto and tech sector stocks, leading the recovery.
On similar lines, the National Stock Exchange index Nifty edged higher by 9.80 points, or 0.11 per cent, at 8,760.
TCS shares were trading higher by 0.38 per cent at Rs 2,634.90 in early trade.
Among other Asian markets, Hong Kong's Hang Seng was up by 0.31 per cent while Japan's Nikkei shed 0.48 per cent in early trade today.
The US Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 0.42 per cent in yesterday's trade.
