Seppa to host Kameng river festival from Jan 21

Enchanting Seppa in East Kameng district of Arunachal Pradesh is all set to allure tourists from January 21 next with the maiden three-day Kameng River Festival (KRF) being organised for the first time on the bank of the mighty Kameng.
With the theme 'Explore the Unexplored', the three-day tourism extravaganza has been organised by the East Kameng Social Welfare and Cultural Organisation (EKSWCO) in collaboration with the district administration and sponsored by the state tourism department.
"The festival will offer the most adventurous and exhilarating white water rafting, paragliding, zip-lining, rappelling and angling - both modern and traditional including local fish- trapping.

Besides, bamboo stilt walks, cycling to villages, greasy bamboo pole climbing, beach volleyball, archery and paintball will be other attractions," festival director Ajit Tajo Sonam told media persons at Arunachal Press Club here today.
Responding to media queries, he said that in a departure from the past, the KRF would be a people-centric festival with involvement of people from all strata of the society rather being VIP-centric usually seen in all other festivals organised in the state.
"The KRF will create a larger platform to sensitize the people on hospitality and the adventure tourism potential of the districts," Sonam said flanked by EKSWCO chairman Khya Safar Pao and marketing manager of the festival Mara Kocho.

"The district inhabited by five tribes namely - Nyishi, Hrusso (Aka), Sajolang (Miji), Puroik and Galo, will provide the best hospitality to the tourists during the festival by offering a wide range of accommodation facilities including home-stay besides offering mouth watering local delicacies at a reasonable price," Sonam said.
Pao informed that in the food festival, a part of the main event, wildlife meat would be banned, a resolution adopted by the 38-year-old EKSWCO recently.
Moreover, he said, the festival would be plastic free and only traditional bamboo-made utensils would be used.
