A 70-year-old was beaten to death allegedly by a local Trinamool Congress leader over enmity with his son in West Bengal's Burdwan district, police said today.
The incident took place at Kulari village, 12 km from here, yesterday when the TMC leader Hari Biswas, angry over his fruitless chase of Jagdish Karmakar's eldest son Biswanath, allegedly beat the old man with a stick outside his home.
When Karmakar lost consciousness, Biswas reportedly fled the spot while neighbours took the injured man inside his home, where he began bleeding profusely from his nose and ears.
He was rushed to a hospital late in the night, where he died, police said.
There was acrimony between Biswas and Karmakar as the latter had moved court against the TMC leader for digging a channel for irrigation on his field.
Biswas had allegedly attacked Biswanath with a sharp weapon yesterday when he was drinking tea at a stall in the village. Biswanath had fled and Biswas' ire fell on Karmakar who was returning home on foot at the time.
An FIR was registered and search is on for the culprit, police said.
