A series of yoga events were held at all the district headquarters in Punjab today on the occasion of the fourth International Yoga Day.
"Yoga improves the health and many ailments can be prevented by adopting Yoga in our daily life. Yoga keeps body and mind healthy. This is a free gift of India to world," said Punjab Health and Family Welfare Minister Brahm Mohindra in a message on the occasion.
He exhorted people to adopt yoga as daily routine.
A state level event was held from 7am to 8 am at the sports complex in Mohali as per Mohindra's directions, said an official release here.
A large number of people including senior citizens, school children, officers, officials of various departments and NGOs participated, it added.
Training sessions, workshops and seminars were conducted on Common Yoga Protocol in various departments of government of Punjab including the home department, education department, jails department, Punjab Armed Police and non-government organisations, said an official spokesman.

The state forest department distributed around 1,000 thousand saplings of sandal, Amaltas, Jamun, Sadabahar, Bilva etc to the participants in Mohali.
Events were held in other parts of the state including Jalandhar, Ferozepur, Amritsar under state government's 'Tandarust Punjab Mission', officials said.
Senior officials were seen performing yoga asanas during the events.
