Chandan Kumar, 20, and his accomplice Arvind Paswan, who allegedly kept a part of stolen money, were arrested following investigations into the theft which took place in Chittaranjan Park on October 11.
Telephone calls to his girl friend and an acquaintance landed Kumar, who stole lakhs of rupees from the house of one Devender Narang, in police net.
During investigation, Additional Commissioner of Police (South-East) Ajay Choudhary said, mobile phones of friends of Kumar were put under surveillance and a search party was sent to places of all possible hideouts.
"Later, Kumar made calls to his girlfriend and Paswan and the number was traced to North 24 Pargana in West Bengal. The address given in the ID proof to obtain the mobile number was found to be false. We interrogated those persons to whom maximum number of calls were made by Kumar.
"One Ashok told us that accused Kumar was residing at his house and he was having cash. Kumar was arrested from Ashok's house," Chaudhury said.
During interrogation, the officer said, Kumar told police that he has kept Rs 4.83 lakh in his wife's house and Rs three lakh is kept at Paswan's house in Alaknanda in New Delhi. This cash was recovered.
