Following a request, the Union Health Ministry and UPSC had given permission to Delhi government in October last year to constitute the Delhi Health Service cadre.
With constitution of the cadre, Delhi government will now be able to fill all vacant posts of doctors in its hospitals.
Health Minister A K Walia said that out of 522 doctors whose services have been regularised, 204 are non-teaching specialists. Delhi government currently runs 32 major hospitals and 250 dispensaries across the city.
These are manned by doctors from the Central Health Service as also doctors engaged on contract basis.
Doctors working on contract for years together have been assessed for suitability by the Union Public Service Commission and thereafter appointed under the Delhi Health Service Cadre, said Walia.
The city government has decided to grant promotion to doctors belonging to Central Health Services who have opted to remain under Delhi Health Service.
