Senior BJP leader Seshadri Chari today praised the communist parties saying they are the only ones that fight elections on the basis of ideology.
If all the parties start believing in value-based election, which is not happening at this moment, it will be better for the society, said Chari, former editor of the RSS mouthpiece 'Organiser'.
"Despite being in the BJP or with the RSS, I will not hesitate to say that only Communist parties fight the polls on the basis of ideology and no other party does that," the party's national executive member said at a lecture series organised by a Hindi newspaper.
But the communist parties have other issues, he said without elaborating.
"There is a saying that everything is fair in love, war and politics. All ask only who is the winner. If we truly want to think about representative politics by not going to right or left, then politics is not to divide the society," Chari said.
He said when Jawaharlal Nehru became the prime minister, nobody asked whether he was a Brahmin or not.

"Slowly caste politics came into picture. The Congress also gradually started to do vote bank politics and caste questions came in. Nowadays, the importance of identity politics has increased," Chari said.
He, however, said there were many people from different parties who do not believe in caste politics.
In September last year, BJP president Amit Shah also praised the communist parties saying internal democracy exists only in these parties and the BJP.
"There have been about 1,650 political parties in the country since Independence. But, only the BJP and communist parties have internal democracy which is not found anywhere else," Shah had said in Bhubaneswar.
Earlier, inaugurating the event, Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal launched the newspaper group's new Hindi news website: dailynews360.com.
