Opposition parties today accused the Uttar Pradesh government of defying all traditions by convening the winter session of the State Legislature at a very short notice just for getting the supplementary budget passed.
"The government has convened the House only for getting the supplementary budget passed. Had it not been a compulsion, the winter session would not have been held," BJP Legislature Party leader Hukum Singh said.
"We have come to know the session, beginning tomorrow, will be a brief one. How can we raise important issues," he said.
Nevertheless, his party would raise issues like delay in starting sugar mills and tension in the western region of the state after the Muzaffarnagar riots forcefully in the House, Singh said.
Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader Pradip Mathur said his party would raise issues like the plight of sugarcane growers and deaths due to Japanese encephalitis.
Delay in implementation of the food security scheme and cane-charge on Congress workers in Lucknow on the matter would also be raised by party members in the House, Mathur said.
"We will highlight how the government has worked under pressure of private sugar mills," he said.
Flaying the government for convening the session in haste, Mathur said instead of 15-day notice, the members got a notice of just five days.
