Issuing a veiled warning to the Centre over the implementation of Sethusamudram project, DMK chief M Karunanidhi tonight said it "would leave Congress' hands" if the ruling party at the Centre abandoned its dream project.
"...Do not leave Sethusamudram project; implement it. We will wait for its implementation. If in case you leave the project, we too will leave your hands," Karunanidhi said, addressing a function here.
"This is not a threat. But a warning with affection. (It's a) request," the DMK chief said, during his speech at alliance party leader Thol Thirumavalavan's birthday function here.
He said that the his party had been seeking the implementation of the project for so long. "The Centre has not yet expressed its assent to it completely. Though they have submitted in the Supreme Court, they have not taken any efforts."
He also listed out certain benefits the people of Tamil Nadu would get in case of the project's implementation.
Though DMK had quit its alliance with the Congress over the Sri Lankan Tamils issue in March this year, both parties are believed to have revived their relationship, ever since Congress' support to DMK candidate Kanimozhi helped her garner a win in the recent Rajya Sabha polls in Tamil Nadu.
DMK has also extended its support to the Congress in the Food Security Bill, provided all its amendments proposals are accepted.
