Seven arrested for betting on vegetable prices

Seven persons have been arrested from Siyani gate area here for allegedly organising betting on vegetable prices.
The seven accused duped people by issued a likely rate list of vegetable prices for the next day, police said.
Thereafter, they invited bets from people on the expected vegetable prices for the next day.
Kuldeep, Pradeep, Krishan Kumar, Anil Kumar, Dinesh, Mahender and Janaradan, all aged between 20 and 30, have been arrested late last night and efforts are being made to nab other involved in the racket, police said.
The accused were active in different areas of the district, they said.

"Recently there has been a steep increase in vegetable rates and making use of the opportunity, the accused used to hold bets on the rates," a senior police officer said.
Police teams will be deployed in market areas to ensure that no such activity in reported from there, he said.
