"The incident occurred post-midnight in Ayodhya when the pilgrims were sleeping alongside the road after returning from their visit to the 'Sawan mela'," a police spokesperson said.
The deceased have been identified as Shlok Kumari (42), Parmu Tiwari (45), Gudiya Pandey (30), Leela (48), Kishori Mishra and Umashanker alias Babban (40). The police is yet to ascertain the identity of one more deceased.
"The injured were admitted to the nearby district hospital. Two of them, Alok Pandey and Aniruddh have been referred to trauma centre in Lucknow," police said.
