Seven policemen injured in attack by dacoits, two nabbed

Seven police personnel, including a junior officer, were injured when they were attacked by an armed gang of highway dacoits near here in the wee hours of today.
Two of the five-member gang of dacoits, who possessed swords and firearms, were nabbed by police, while the others managed to escape, police said.
The injured personnel were part of a police team which was patrolling the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Highway, Pradeep Jadhav, Deputy Superintendent of Police (Jawhar Division), told PTI on phone.
The policemen were in plainclothes and replacing tyre of their vehicle at around 3.20 am when the criminals mistook them as highway passengers and launched an assault in a bid to rob them. The men in uniform pounced on the dacoits and apprehended two of them, police said.
Additional force was rushed to the spot and the injured personnel, including Ravindra Maga, Assistant Police Inspector in-charge of Kasa Police Station, were taken to a nearby hospital, from where they were discharged late in the evening, they said.
The arrested dacoits were identified as Gangaram Gurunath Bandarge (27), a resident of Jalna in Central Maharashtra, and R S Parvar (35) of Indore in MP. They were booked under relevant sections of IPC and Arms Act, police added.
