Arunachal Pradesh Home Minister Bamang Felix on Sunday said the state government has incorporated several schemes for police modernisation which would be executed in a phased manner.

Felix said this at a function to induct five anti-riot vehicles (Vajra) in the state police.

"Our effort to modernise the police department is not for creating fear among the people but to create awareness among them to become law abiding citizens," Felix said and appealed to the people to help police in maintaining law and order.

The Vajra vehicles are equipped with all modern instruments including automatic barrel launcher for tear gas and other anti-riot emissions.

As a non lethal and effective method of clearing out protesters or rioters, the vehicles are also equipped with Long Range Acoustic Device (LRAD) that can send announcements, warnings, and harmful pain-inducing tones.

Two of the five vehicles will be stationed in the state capital while another in Yupia near here, one each in Pasighat (East Siang district) and Bomdila in West Kameng district of the state.
