While the minimum temperatures have been hovering just near the normal level at most places in the two states, the maximum temperatures have plummeted upto ten notches below normal level.
A thick blanket of fog engulfed most places in both the states, affecting normal life.
Chandigarh residents woke up to a thick blanket of fog and icy cold winds this morning. The minimum temperature today settled at 6.2 degree Celsius, a notch below normal as against yesterday's maximum of 10.4 degrees, which was down by ten notches below normal, the MeT Department report said.
Meanwhile, Ambala's low was recorded at 6.1 degree Celsius while the minimum temperature in Hisar was recorded at 6.2 degrees.

Piercing cold wave swept Amritsar where the minimum temperature was recorded at 3.6 degree Celsius while Ludhiana and Patiala recorded respective lows of 6.7 and 6.6 degrees.
