Members of the Students Federation of India and some Kashmiri students in the University of Hyderabad tried to stage a protest against the Centre's decision to abolish Article 370 but they were dispersed by university security personnel, police said Tuesday.

Sanjay, a leader of the SFI--student wing of the CPI-M--in UoH, said they called for a protest in the university along with students from Jammu and Kashmir and other organisations on Monday, but police dispersed the crowd as students from ABVP had also gathered at the venue.

Police, however, said university security personnel stopped members of both the groups from assembling (either in favour or against) and staging protest, citing prohibitory orders issued following the developments in parliament over Jammu and Kashmir.

Meanwhile, Ataullah Niazi, former president of Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU) in the city who is still a student at the university, said the Centre's move was "undemocratic."
