SGPC row: Deadlock continues

The deadlock between Amritsar- based Shiromani Gurudwara Parbhandhak Committee and its newly formed counterpart over control of Sikh shrines in Haryana continued for the fourth successive day today with both the groups refusing to yield ground.
With SAD patron and Punjab Chief minister Parkash Singh Badal and Amritsar-based SGPC backed by him continued exerting pressure over the Centre on the formation of Haryana Sikh Gurudwara Management Committee (HSGMC), the new body today apprised Haryana governor Kaptan Singh Solanki of its "legal position".
The ad-hoc committee of HSGMC, which has 41 office bearers, wants to take control of about 30 Sikh shrines which are currently being managed by the SGPC task force.

A seven-member delegation of HSGMC led by its President Jagdish Singh Jhinda today met the Haryana governor.
Jhinda told the governor that over the years there had been lot of "geographical changes" and the SAD and Amritsar-based SGPC is still banking upon "age old" All India Sikh Gurdwara Act of 1925.
He said that their protest at Kurukshetra will continue in a "peaceful manner" and the Sikhs in Haryana will "not compromise" on the formation of HSGMC.
