The Shahdol circle of Madhya Pradesh forest department has created a new Guinness World Record (GWR) by planting 17,08,181 trees in ten hours on a single day, an official release said today.
The record was created on July 22, 2013, under the 'Save Forest Campaign' through forest protection committee and village forest committees with people's participation for which the world record certificate has been issued by GWR office located in London, United Kingdom.
The world record was achieved as a result of meticulous planning and consistent efforts by Indian Forest Service (IFS) officer Y Satyam, who was then posted as chief conservator of forests, the release said.
A total of 55,26,945 saplings were planted on July 22, 2013, in 10 hours from 9 AM to 7 PM on the total 38,523 witness and non-witness planting locations by the members of the committees, it said.
Nearly 86,823 people participated in the mega plantation drive in the districts of Shahdol, Umaria and Anuppur. Tree plantation was done by the family members of land owners on their respective lands.
As per the GWR guidelines, two government servants have to be present during plantation and verify and certify the plantings.
The Guinness World Record has accepted the plantation record sent by the forest circle Shahdol based on the witness and other related records in the category "Most trees planted in 12 hours (team) - Multiple locations," it said.
The GWR minimum requirement is plantation of three lakh trees in this category for the world record, against which a total of 55,26,945 trees were planted in 10 hours in the forest circle Shahdol, out of which 17,08,181 trees were planted on witness locations, which is five times more than the target set by it.
