The bypoll to the Shahkot assembly constituency in Punjab will be held on May 28, the Election Commission announced today.
A spokesperson of office of the Chief Electoral Officer, Punjab, said polling will be held on May 28 while counting of votes and result will be declared on May 31, 2018.
A notification will be issued in this regard on May 3 and the last date of submission of nomination papers will be May 10, the spokesperson said.
He said scrutiny of papers will be done on May 11 and the last for the withdrawal of nomination papers is May 14.
With the announcement of by-election for Shahkot assembly constituency, model code of conduct is enforced in Jalandhar district with immediate effect, the spokesperson added. Shahkot falls in Jalandhar district.
The seat fell vacant following the death of SAD MLA Ajit Singh Kohar.

Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) has already announced Naib Singh Kohar, son of late ex-minister Ajit Singh Kohar, as its candidate.
The Congress and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) are also likely to contest the bypoll.
