A roundtable business conference was organised in the UAE to strengthen Sharjah's trade relations with India and to promote the Gulf emirate as a leading business and investment hub in the region.
The Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq) in collaboration with the Indian Business and Professional Council (IBPC) and India Trade and Exhibition Centre (ITEC) hosted the event which was attended by officials from many Sharjah departments and Indian business community.
"Sharjah and India are no strangers. We have a long and successful shared business history that has brought benefit and progress to both our countries," said Shurooq CEO Marwan Sarkal.
"Indian business community has consistently acted as positive drivers of business and commerce within the Emirate, noting that there are many Indian companies whose regional and international success stories began in Sharjah," he said.
"Sharjah was one of the first destinations in the UAE and the greater GCC to welcome Indian nationals and business interests and today more than 400,000 Indian nationals call Sharjah home," said K Muraleedharan, Deputy Consul of India.
Shurooq was established in 2009 with the aim of achieving social, cultural, environmental and economic development in Sharjah, one of the seven emirates of the UAE.
