Shekhar, who has given several hit tracks, is turning actor with the real-life inspired story.
"Before 'Neerja' happened, I was offered at least eight to ten films which came from top directors and producers. Mostly they were lead roles. I liked some offers, but the projects did not kickstart while some offers did not excite me," Shekhar told PTI.
The "Tujhe Bhula Diya" singer insists he had no plans about acting in films.
It was the idea of "Neerja" director Ram Madhvani, who is Shekhar's good friend, to cast the musician in the film.
"It was Ram's idea to cast me. He helped me a lot while playing this role of Sonam Kapoor's love interest. He allowed me to explore the part the way I wanted. Acting came naturally to me," Shekhar said.
The film is based on the life of slain air hostess Neerja, who saved 360 lives on a flight that was hijacked in 1986 in Karachi.
