Shifting demographies pose new challenge: Canadian Guv Gen

Canadian Governor General and Commandar-in-Chief David Johnston today stressed on the need for strengthening the rule of law and said both India and Canada need to give attention to the challenges posed by shifting and growing demographics.
Johnston, now on a visit to India, was conferred with Doctor of Law (LL.D) degree for his achievements in the field of law and legal education.
Conferred by the National Law University at a special convocation, the LL.D (Honoris Causa) was also conferred to him for his lifetime committment to the service of human kind.
"We live in changing times. Our world is becoming more globalized. New technology rapidly change how we see the world and how we interact with one other. Shifting and growing demographics bring new challenges unimagined 50 years ago," he said.
He said "this applies as much to Canada as it does to India and it requires our attention. We all have the reponsibility to strengthen the rule of law."
He maintained the purpose of his visit to India is to strengthen the partnership that exists between both the countries, particularly in areas of education, innovation and entrepreneurship with a special focus on contribution of women and girls.
