Senior BJP leader Shikha Rai was today elected unopposed as chairperson of the party-led South Delhi Municipal Corporation's standing committee.
Soon after taking charge, she counted building parking facilities and installation of CCTV cameras among her priorities.
Parking is a major problem in Delhi, and hence, will focus on construction of new sites, she said.
"A number of stack-parking sites will be developed in different localities to provide relief to the citizens who have been facing difficulties in parking their vehicles.
"Underground parking sites are now being used by citizens during night hours," Rai said.
She said that apart from this, space for 25 parking lots has been finalised to develop multi-level automated parking and stack-parking facilities.
Rai also said the work on installation of CCTV cameras in schools will be "expedited" keeping in view the safety of children.

"We will soon take a decision on utilisation of councillor's funds for installation of CCTV cameras in schools.
"The SDMC will ensure better maintenance of existing infrastructure along with development of new infrastructure," she said.
This will enable the civic to make better usage of the existing infrastructure, Rai said.
Poonam Bhati was elected unopposed to the post of deputy chairperson.
SDMC Commissioner P K Goel congratulated her and said the SDMC will be able to secure a ranking between 25-30 in the next Swachhta Ranking as we have strived hard to make our sanitation efforts result-oriented.
