Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde will take a call on the recommendations of the Gujarat government for dismissal of IPS officer Sanjiv Bhatt for his alleged anti-government acts.
Official sources said the file concurring with the recommendations for dismissal from services made by the Gujarat government against 1988 batch IPS officer for allegedly violating service rules has been sent to Shinde for perusal.
Bhatt, who is being seen as baiter of Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, is alleged to have misused his official position and indulged in anti-government acts, the sources said.
The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has received necessary documents from the Gujarat government in this regard.
Bhatt has already been issued show cause notice by the MHA which he has refused to receive, sources said.
In case Shinde's approves Bhatt's dismissal, the file will go to Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) and a final call will eventually be taken by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
Bhatt, who has been under suspension for over two years, was also arrested in 2011 by Gujarat Police after a constable had registered an FIR claiming to have been forced by him to file an affidavit on the riots in the state. He was later released on bail.
The constable had alleged that Bhatt was present during a meeting in February 2002 called by Modi. Bhatt had claimed that Modi asked officials at the meeting to go easy on rioters, leading to killings of hundred of people in the communal violence.
