A Station House Officer has been suspended while his three colleagues were booked for allegedly torturing and wrongful confinement of a youth of Danewala village, officials said.
Malout SHO Rameshwar Singh and three policemen have been booked on charges of wrongful confinement and torturing a youth identified as Gurlal Singh of Danewala village near Malout.
A case has been registered against a man identified as Sukhpal Singh, resident of Danewala village, in this connection.
Following the case, the SHO has been suspended.
Gurlal Singh in his complaint has alleged that he was picked up by the police on May 15 during Zila Parishad election from village Gurdwara and later tortured by them.
He was released when the villagers staged a dharna in front of the police station.
An action was taken only after the interference of the Chief Minister, Singh said.
Singh had also approached National Scheduled Caste and ST Commission and the Commission had summoned the police officials to appear before it on June 22.
