Superintendent of Police Amit Lodha said Station House Officer of Dagarua, Md. Aslamsher Ansari, has been suspended and detained for questioning after it came to light that he had let Saleem, accused in a looting case in Delhi, go without arresting him and misleading the Delhi Police about the matter.
Saleem, who was arrested later by a team of the Delhi Police, told interrogators that he had been let off by the SHO on payment of bribe of Rs 10 lakh, Lodha said.
Saleem, hailing from Bainga Bareli village under Dagarua police station, had looted Rs 30 lakh from a businessman in Delhi a few years ago and fled to his village where he was let off by the SHO even after being tipped off about his movement.
