Actor John Abraham rates friend-director Shoojit Sircar as the best filmmaker from Bengal and says he has the knack of putting his weight behind the right subject.
"Shoojit has the knack of backing the right subject. As a National award winner he is, for me, the best director from Bengal," John told PTI at the music launch of Bengali film 'Open Tee Bioscope', produced by Sircar.
'Open Tee Bioscope', Shoojit's second Bengali production,
Traces the roots of north Kolkata as seen in early '90s.
"I love to watch its trailers. 'Open Tee Bioscope' is a coming of age film... (It's) very well shot.
"There had been lots of stories merging in a single strand and I must say Shoojit has backed the right person as director, Anindyo Chatterjee. I guess he can be the next best possible thing from Bengal," he said.

'Vickey Donor', the first production of John and was directed by Sircar, had won the national award for best film for wholesome entertainment.
On John's upcoming period film '1911', the actor said, "As a football fanatic I love to do sports films. Now it is upto Shoojit to decide when the shooting of 1911 will begin. It's his call."
The story of '1911' is based on Mohun Bagan's victory against East Yorkshire Regiment in 1911 when the club became the first native team to have won the IFA Shield.
"I think people of this generation need to know about the exploits of our heroes on field in those days," John, who co-owns a football team of the Indian Super League, said.
