A major tragedy was averted when the local shopkeepers in the busy Shalamar market of Jammu helped douse a fire by using the fire extinguishers present in their shops.
A power transformer outside a bank branch at the busy Shalamar market caught fire due to short-circuit and soon it was into flames.
"We the local shopkeepers took out our fire extinguishers to douse the fire before it could spread to other areas," a local shopkeeper said.
He said that before the fire service vehicles could reach the area the fire was brought under control by the shopkeepers.
