Showers lash Delhi, bring down mercury

Monsoon showers lashed the national capital today bringing down mercury and providing much-needed respite to Delhiites who had been reeling under hot and humid conditions for the past several days.
The Safdarjung observatory which is considered the official for the city, recorded of 11.2 mm rainfall while areas under Palam, Ayanagar, Ridge and Lodhi Road recorded 12.7 mm, 16.4 mm, 8.8 mm and 14.4 mm rainfall respectively in the last 24 hours, a MeT department official said.
The weeatherman predicted more rains for tomorrow.
"The sky will be generally cloudy. Thunderstorm with rains would occur in many areas. The maximum temperature is likely to settle at 35 degrees," said the weatherman.
Humidity in air oscillated between 54 and 98 per cent.
The maximum temperature plunged seven notches below normal to 29.7 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature settled at a pleasant 25.8 degrees Celsius, two notches below season's average, the official said.
Yesterday, the maximum temperature was recorded at 38.4 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature was 31.2 degrees Celsius.
