The 26-year-old actress criticised the celebration of International Women's Day through a series of tweets, saying a single occasion is not enough to remember the injustice women go through every day.
"Every 20 mins or so, there is a rape happening in our country. And today we are 'celebrating' womens day.
"No single day can express the injustice that women have to go through everyday. To be objectified, abused and treated worse than garbage. Stand up against this abuse, not just today but every day," she wrote.
"Love and respect to all you lovely ladies out there! ALWAYS keep your head up and NEVER stop being FEARLESS!!! #ProudToBeAnIndianWoman," she added.
The "Aashiqui 2" star, who is the daughter of Bollywood veteran Shakti Kapoor, said "women empowerment is the best change to make the world a better place".
