A 'Shramdaan' was carried out in the Naval Base here today by all the navy personnel here as part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Clean India Mission.
The Navy said the activities included concerted efforts towards removal of plastic waste to make the environment plastic free, preparatory activities for greening efforts, rain water harvesting in view of the impending monsoon and other cleaning activities.
All personnel of the Naval Base at Kochi and INS Dronacharya, Fort Kochi, irrespective of rank and their families, participated in the event, a Navy release said.

Since the launch of "Swachh Bharat" campaign by the Prime Minister last year, the Naval Base at Kochi has been having regular cleanliness drives to bring about community awareness towards keeping the surroundings litter free, it said.
The Navy said it is the stated objective of the Southern Naval Command to use this mission as a platform to motivate not only the Naval personnel but also the citizens of Kochi to dedicate themselves towards making the city cleaner by addressing the areas in their immediate vicinity through correct waste management practices.
