SHRC takes suo motu cognisance of threat to villagers
Press Trust of India Kolkata Taking suo-motu cognisance of media reports of threat to villagers of Kamuduni who questioned West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday, State Human Rights Commission has asked police to ensure safety of the villagers and submit a report regarding it.
Some villagers had a heated arguments with the chief minister during her visit to Kamduni in North 24 Parganas district, where she had gone to meet the family members of a 20-year-old girl who was gangraped and murdered a few days back.
According to media reports, Trinamool Congress supporters have been threatening the villagers of dire consequences as they dared to question Banerjee.
"The SHRC has taken suo-motu cognisance about the matter. And we have asked the additional chief secretary to see that the matter is being enquired and a report is submitted within three weeks. The SHRC has also asked the district police super to ensure safety and security of those villagers, who are being threatened and submit a report regarding it," said Sujoy Haldar, an official of SHRC.
