Major General Dinesh Shrivastava on Thursday assumed the command of Golden Katar Division, responsible for safeguarding the borders with Pakistan along Southern Rajasthan and Gujarat, a release said.
Shrivastava has served in varied terrains and has a vast experience, it said.
He took command of the division on the Independence Day, a release from the defence spokesperson of Gujarat said.
Shrivastava has carried out important assignments in counter-insurgency areas of Jammu and Kashmir and North East, commanded a unit in Strike Corps and Siachen Glacier (Op Meghdoot).
He also commanded a Brigade at Port Blair in strategically important Andaman and Nicobar Islands, it said.
The Goldan Katar Division of the Indian Army is not only responsible for the borders of South Rajasthan and Gujarat, but has also been contributing to internal security. It also came to the aid of civil authorities during disaster or natural calamities, the release said.
